The officers had no business being there in the first place, and the census worker who was there at 9:00 PM had no business harassing people that late at night. If I had a knock at my door at 9:00 PM, I'd have armed myself as well, because everybody I know would never just knock on my door without calling ahead.
I agree that stupidity claimed a life - the stupidity of the census worker, who escalated the situation by calling the cops. He should never have been there that late, if at all, and he had no business nosing around in other people's business.
The officers were responding to a 911 call. Which is their JOB. The census worker was doing his job, too. Do we know all the details? All the woman had to do was put her shotgun down as directed by the police officers. It's HER fault she's dead.
She was on her own property. It was 9 PM. It was dark. The man was in his own house with his own gun. The census worker should NOT have been going door-to-door at 9 PM. How would you feel if you were disturbed by some stranger who showed up at your door at night unannounced?
My point is, once the police were involved, she should have used her two brain cells and put the shotgun down. Would I be pleased if a census worker knocked on my door at 9PM? No, of course not. And if I had a gun, I'd answer the door armed, too. But if the police showed up after that, you can bet your ass I'd follow their directions! I would NOT refuse to put my weapon down or threaten them with it, because THAT WOULD BE STUPID.
This is a blog about anything that piques my interest, but it's mostly about firearms, airguns, archery, hunting and other things that hurl projectiles at great speeds and/or distances. It might occasionally be about politics, fishing, food and other stuff too.
I disagree. STUPIDITY claimed a life. There's no cure for stupid, and it looks like this woman unfortunately already passed her genes on.
